This morning I woke up driven to do something I’ve been meaning to do for some time. I took each of the three lawnmowers I have been working on for the past year, emptied them of oil, reassembled them, and loaded them into my old rusty Datsun Kingcab. After a short drive, I delivered them to a salvage yard and bade this project a final farewell. Though I never did get any of the old machines running again, I am now confidant that I could fix just about any small engine if it happened to be in just slightly better condition than the ones I had acquired. It feels as though I have said goodbye to an old acquaintance, an acquaintance I often disagreed with but somehow loved in a strange ambivalent sort of way. I will miss those stubborn old machines.
